astrological gift guide, part 1

You know I hate to conform to societal norms, but ‘tis the season and all that, so I thought it would be fun to write an astrological gift guide!

Here’s what I suggest giving to the «insert sign here» in your life! Part 1 covers Aries through Virgo; look out for Part 2 soon!

I broke these into four categories:

• High: $100+

• Mid: Anywhere from about $50-$100

• Low: About $30 or less

• Free: Should be free of monetary cost, but not free of time

• Crafted/homemade: May require you to purchase supplies

It should go without saying, but in case it doesn’t:

For the most part, I don’t recommend that you buy from big-box stores; I don’t recommend that you buy anything new where you can help it; I don’t recommend that you buy fast fashion.

I will always advocate for local and supporting the sole proprietors / small businesses in your city. Buy from the online shops that are quirky and unique; purchase things that are used (where it makes sense, of course…a thrifted set of highball glasses: makes sense; a used candle: does not make sense).

Enjoy!

♈️Aries🐏

• High: Gift certificate for a blow-out or a facial

• Mid: Quirky lamp from a thrift store or a desk salt lamp

• Low: Take them out for a coffee + scone date—no phones/distractions allowed!

• Free: Challenge them to a game night or a card game (of their choice)

• Homemade/crafted: Make them a ribbon, trophy (Goodwill is a good place for finding trophies!), or award that lists what they are ‘Best At’

♉️Taurus🐂

• High: Meal out for an elevated dinner, think wine pairing or chef’s table

• Mid: A necklace with their name on it or any symbol they love (heart, peace sign, zodiac constellation, etc.)

• Low: Little desk plant in a cute pot

• Free: Write them an acrostic poem

• Homemade/crafted: Make them their favorite baked good and of course wrap it up very cute (“with a bow” adds my resident Taurus)

♊️Gemini🦋

• High: Day trip out of town somewhere cute

• Mid: Pair of warm, cute gloves (think hand-crocheted or with fur trim) or warm, functional gloves (with the little finger pads so they can text with gloves on)

• Low: Stationary set or notebook + fun pens

• Free: One hour of uninterrupted time together, where you talk through anything and everything

• Homemade/crafted: A little (like 4x6 sized) collage of words/phrases/images from magazine clippings that you think describes them; frame it and they can put it on their desk/altar

♋️Cancer🦀

• High: Print purchased from one of the many artists they’ve shared on Instagram

• Mid: Cool olive oil cruet or handmade ceramic vase or bowl (I’ve had excellent luck on Etsy!)

• Low: New cookbook or a book on a historical topic you know they love

• Free: Make them a mix tape (Spotify playlist)

• Homemade/crafted: Cook them a meal and have them come over for a pajama night dinner, or offer to bring dinner to them because they probably don’t want to go anywhere

♌️Leo🦁

• High: Piece of gold jewelry (bonus points for lion ideography)

• Mid: Candle in their favorite scent (my friend Kim, Leo rising, loves Bijou, which is women-owned!)

• Low: New set of paint, brushes, washi tape, or sketch pad (or a combo of one or two of those items) or take them to see a matinee movie of their choice

• Free: Write them a letter complimenting all the ways in which they are an inspiration to you

• Homemade/crafted: A crown made of construction paper and decorated with little pom poms and gemstones

♍️Virgo🌿

• High: Gift certificate to a home organization establishment (I said no big box, but ok, the Container Store)

• Mid: Annual subscription to the cooking site of their choice (like

  , a Virgo, how perfect) or to the NYT puzzles

• Low: Stickers to make their day planner more fun (but not an actual day planner because they already have that covered and have since August)

• Free: Find a cool new hike and take them out for a nature walk

• Homemade/crafted: Get two or three flower bouquets from the grocery store and make them an arrangement using a vase or jar from your stash
