why time of birth matters: ADDENDUM
Way back when, I wrote about how “cusps don’t exist” because if you know your time of birth, then you know your exact astrological placements and therefore you are not on the cusp of anything. Then I proceeded to give an example about how my dad and daughter share a birthday and are both Tauruses, but since both are “on the cusp,” one or both could actually be an Aries, if born an hour or so in either direction.
Well well well.
I recently got my hands on my dad’s birth certificate and since it is quite old (but young at heart), it’s hard to tell whether the AM or PM boxes were checked. I used a magnifying glass and saw that there was the faintest mark in the AM box, which means that when I originally entered his time of birth as PM, I was very wrong. (This is why birth certificates should all be in 24 hour clock time!)
Also wrong is the fact that he is a Taurus at all. He is actually an Aries (which fits him much better, anyway, I think). As it turns out, my original note about cusps not existing is actually more supported now than it was then and since I discovered this news, I have been bandying it around town whenever I get the chance. OH YOU THINK YOU’RE ON THE CUSP, WELL LET ME TELL YOU.
I would be remiss not to mention that houses do have cusps, particularly in the house system I use (Placidus). So, while “cusps don’t exist” is kind of clickbait-y, I do talk about house cusps when I do a reading and I don’t want there to be any confusion!
speaking of aries and the transition to taurus…
Here we are in Taurus season! A couple of Taurus seasons ago, I wrote some great words (IF I DO SAY SO MYSELF) about Taurus and I thought, in the interest of my sanity, that I would share them here again. Because working smarter, not harder is VERY Taurean. I told a friend the other night that I’m lazy and while I’m not lazy in the sense that I think people think I mean it, I do mean it in the sense that I am always trying to make the biggest impact with the least amount of effort. Because, as you’ll see when you get down to my bulleted list of things to do during Taurus season, if I’m stuck at this desk toiling over a keyboard, then I won’t have time to go hug a tree or smell the flowers.
Read on for more about Taurus…
The Taurean energy is one of my favorites. Taurus is a manifestation machine—ask, believe, receive, as Kim Zolciak-Biermann (a Taurus!) would say.
Taurus is patient.
Taurus is also stubborn.
Stubborn in their level of patience, you might even say. (Ask a Taurus what they want for their birthday and you are likely to get the answer, “I’ll think about it.” And I do believe they are really thinking about it! Figuring out what it is they really WANT and really NEED and waiting until there’s absolutely no chance anything will arrive in time before they finally figure it out.)
Taurus is ruled by Venus, the planet of love, beauty, and relationships.
Taurus rules the second house, which is all about resources, financial and otherwise, and values. Taurus has the keen ability to really hone in on what they value and bring those resources into their life. These resources can be material things, sure, but at its highest, they are people, experiences, memories—anything that Taurus needs to feel complete.
Taurus is an earth sign—the first earth sign of the zodiac—and it’s no wonder we plant summer crops in Taurus season. Taurus will wait as long as it takes for us to reap what we sow. (Ed: I actually planted my tomatoes this year in Aries season, so I’d like to amend this!)
Taurus feels at home with the moon. When the moon is in Taurus, life’s just good. Easeful. There doesn’t need to be much overdoing it during this time. Taurus season happens once a year, but the moon lands in Taurus once a month-ish, so you can look forward to this energy in smaller pockets throughout the year.
Taurus is mindful of our environment and nature’s resources (EARTH DAY OCCURS IN TAURUS SEASON, HELLO!).
Here’s a good way to spend time during Taurus season or when the moon is in Taurus:
Get outside, sun on the face, feet on the ground☀️
Hug a tree (I’m dead-ass serious when I tell you I hug trees! Warning: They are not a comfortable hug, but you will get something in return)🌳
Stop to smell the flowers (lol at when we landed in Hawaii last year and my husband looked at me funny and asked if I’d smelled a flower because my nose was orange—WHY YES I DID)🌺
Tell a friend how much you appreciate them and why👯♀️
Write down 3 things you’re grateful for🙏
Blow off something you NEED to do in favor of something you WANT to do—sometimes wants are actually needs, as Taurus likes to remind us💫
Happy Taurus season to you all, Tauruses or otherwise! Remember, you might not have the sun or moon or any planets in Taurus, but you do at least have a Taurus-ruled house, so these energies do apply! Comment your rising sign and I’ll tell you which house for you is Taurus-ruled!
